What are Mala Beads?

What is a mala? We get asked that a lot. And to be fair, it’s a great question!

So let us break it down for you. Simply stated, a mala is a set of beads that has traditionally been used in prayer and meditation. (Often called prayer beads.)

So does that mean I have to be religious to wear one?  We believe that anyone can wear a mala — yogis, surfers, fashionistas, singers, dancers, moms, dads, teens… The list goes on. The jewelry can be worn by anyone seeking a calmer mind, body, and spirit.

Our jewelry is handmade in Bali by professional mala makers and are made from rudraksha beads.

What’s a rudraksha, you ask?

A rudraksha is a seed that grows inside of what looks like a blueberry. Ours are sustainably harvested on trees in South East Asia. The beads (or seeds) are believed to embody peace and love.

Our jewelry is unique — not only because it’s fair trade — but also because it features gemstones.

And those stones are believed to offer different healing qualities. For example, turquoise is believed to increase love and destroy hatred, while lava is said to provide strength and clarity.

Overall, we simply want to connect you with a mala that best embodies your personality, and reflects your intentions.
