We love connecting with people in our community to talk about meditation, mindfulness and their favorite malas. In this installation of You & Your Mala we feature performer and yoga teacher Will Blunderfield.
We collaborated on the Rock Om collection. What inspired you to want to create a line of mala beads?
When the opportunity to collaborate came along I immediately said yes, as it was my dream to create yoga inspired pieces for my students — malas that act as inspiration and reminders of yoga's amazing wisdom.
How did you choose your mala? Were you drawn to a particular energy or gemstone?
I wanted a powerful piece that really embodied my mantra of being a rockstar at whatever you do in life (a lighthouse for others like you!).
Lava symbolizes warrior energy in many cultures, a few rudraksha beads to promote peace, and a hand-carved skull which symbolizes the death of human ignorance. I had a lot of fun designing my Rockstar Mala.
"I realized that meditation is simply focused awareness on what you're truly wanting."
When did you start your meditation practice? What are some of the benefits you have received from your practice?
I began a meditation practice when I started practising yoga at acting school in New York in 2003. I realized that meditation is simply focused awareness on what you're truly wanting, combined with breath, and so I work to infuse my day with meditation, be it during yoga, running, business meetings, etc.
