You and Your Mala: Lauren Roegele
How did you choose your mala? Were you drawn to a particular energy or gemstone?
I have always been drawn to Turquoise, so when I was introduced to the Mala Collective line, the West Coast mala was an easy pick for me.
When did you start your meditation practice? What are some of the benefits you have received from your practice?
I have been practicing yoga and meditation since 2002, however I seem to be more at ease in my meditation practice over the last 4 years since my daughter (Stella) was born.
After Stella was born, I struggled with Post partum depression and because of the busy schedule as a working mom I wasn’t getting enough time to practice my yoga, so I started to seriously practice meditation and it helped me immensely.
It gave me the time and space to get some perspective on what was really going on for me at that time which grounded me energetically. I now include it into my daily routine, along with my yoga practice and gratitude journal.
Any tips for those who are just starting to use a mala in meditation? Do you have a favorite mantra or intention to meditate with?
I believe everything is much simpler than we usually make it out to be. So keep your meditation simple and let go of the pressure in doing it in a specific way.
Just sit quietly for 5 – 10 mins and be aware of that which is going on around and within, without judgments, criticisms or attachments to that you are noticing. When I meditate I love to quietly chant the Sanskrit word “NAMAH”. It means “surrender” or “I bow to the auspicious one within me”. It reminds me to let go and just be.
