Action Plan for Following Dreams

The saying goes that goals not written down are just wishes – and are likely to stay that way. You don’t usually achieve your dreams in one giant leap; they take time. Without a plan, it's easy to lose your way. Read our tips below to guide you on your way as you plan to make your deepest dreams and desires reality.
Step 1: Everything begins in the heart and mind, so dream it! Think big and remember that your dreams should excite you, rather than overwhelm you. Don’t be discouraged by negative thoughts and instead dream of the possibilities for yourself, your family and for others. If you had a dream that you let grow cold, re-ignite the dream and fan the flames. Life is too short to let it go.
Step 2: Believe in yourself. While it’s always great to dream big, it’s important to manifest something that you feel is within your capabilities - so try to focus on what you think is believable.
Step 3: Visualize it. All great achievers claim that they “see” things before it becomes reality. Great free-throw shooters in the NBA picture the ball going through the basket. PGA golfers picture the ball going straight down the fairway. World-class speakers picture themselves speaking with energy and emotion. All of this grooms the mind to control the body to carry out the dream.
Step 4: Talk about it. One of the reasons why dreams never make it into fruition is because often the dreamer keeps it all to themselves. Verbalize your goals to others and reiterate it in your mind over and over. Speaking up about our dreams holds us accountable and helps to make our wishes more believable. Telling others about your goals is a great way of motivating yourself to follow through on your plans and aspirations.
Step 5: Every dream must take the form of a plan. The old saying that you “get what you plan for” is so true… Dreams don’t just happen. Instead you need to sit down, avoid any form of distraction and plan out your strategy for achieving your goals. Spend some time thinking through all of the details involved and break the whole plan down into small, workable parts. See what’s feasible to start with given whatever may be going on in your life and set an overall time frame for accomplishing each task.
Step 6: Don’t be put off by hard work. Unfortunately the successful are usually the hardest workers… Focus on the end goal to keep your mind on the right track as you make compromises (that mightn’t always be easy) to achieve all that you desire.
Step 7: Enjoy it. When you have reached your goal, make sure to enjoy it. Reward yourself along the way as you reach important milestones too and most importantly, don’t be so hard on yourself.
